About Me

Hello internet denizens!

My name is Kayla, I’m a UC student studying abroad in Singapore for the fall of 2013. This blog, as is so common, is a medium to document my hopefully amazing travels and keep in contact with all my people back at home.

My goal is to use this blog to record and communicate, but also as a sounding board for my thoughts about the experiences I will accumulate throughout my trip. If it ever feels like I’m rambling without a fully formed opinion it might be because I am. I will, of course, attempt to amuse more than bemuse, so take heart.

If you have ever been to Singapore/Southeast Asia and feel like passing on some first hand tips and tricks, talk to me! Let me know any conventional or unconventional wisdom I might want to have.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Welcome to Singapore, Kayla. I enjoy reading your blog. I think you’re an awesome writer. Very engaging and descriptive. It’s nice to read about my country through the eyes of a foreigner. I hope you will have a great time studying and living here! Make lots and lots of memories while you can!

    • Thank you so much, you’re so nice! I’m glad I can bring a new perspective on Singapore :) I’m working on the memories for sure, I really love it here so far. If you know of any spots I should visit feel free to share your knowledge, I’m always open to suggestions.

      • Haha I’m nice when I want to be ;P Glad you’re liking it so far. But I’m sure you still need some time to get used to the humidity. Right now, it’s the month just after the Muslims have finished their fasting month. If you have any Malay friends, maybe participate in the celebration? That’d be a good experience and you get to try lots of good food when you go house visiting :) I guess being a Singaporean, when a tourist asks where they should go, I’m stumped because I can only think of the obvious attractions like where you’ve been and all the parks and zoos and museums haha. Perhaps you can try heading down to Arab Street at Bugis where you can sample Mediterranean cuisine or maybe even shisha and do a spot a shopping there while you’re at it. I’ll let you know if I can think of any other good spots!

  2. Welcome to Singapore! Great stories here.
Your stories reminds me of my first trip here in this amazing little red dot. Wishing you all the best in your studies and keep on exploring Singapore, been here for almost three years now and guess what, I’m still exploring SG’s hidden gems and still excited as before! See your around singapore if ever we cross paths!
